A Community of Faith, Worship, and Unwavering Hope

Strengthen Your Faith, Connect with Community

Approximately three miles west of Woodstock, Virginia, Wesley Chapel Methodist Church sits at the intersection of Route 42 (Senedo Rd.) and Readus Rd. We are a small country church, surrounded by farm land and homes, in sight of two mountain ranges which form the Shenandoah Valley.

Prior to having a church of their own, local residents often used small schools as “ a house of religious worship and preaching place for benefit of all orthodox religious denominations”. Built mostly by members, Wesley Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church opened its doors in the fall of 1880. One member recalled being told that the original building had two doors – one for men and the other for women to enter; they sat separately in the church as well. In 1915, the church was remodeled, going to only one door and adding a belfry. Over the years, a basement, two Sunday School wings, and many other improvements were added. Many present members are distant relatives of those original ones who built the church.

Originally, circuit ministers served a number of churches. Worship services at Wesley finally became weekly in the early 1950’s.

In 1939, Wesley and other local Methodist Episcopal Churches became part of the Methodist Virginia Conference. Then, in 1968, The Methodist Church and The Evangelical United Brethren Church merged to form the United Methodist Church.

Wesley Chapel and St. Johns are sister churches, making up the Edinburg Methodist Parish. On December 1, 2023, both churches disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church and became members of the Global Methodist Church. We are proud to share our Pastor, Terry Hendricks, and have a positive outlook that our churches will continue to grow the kingdom of God and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Visitors are always welcome to come and experience how comfortable it is to worship with us any Sunday!

Pastor Terry Hendricks

I began my journey as a pastor in 2011 through the United Methodist Church and now serve as
an elder in the Global Methodist Church since December 1, 2023. I currently serve as a
presiding elder overseeing the Valley South District. The Edinburg Methodist Parish became
Global Methodists on December 1, 2023. We are excited about what God is doing in the GMC
and in our community of churches.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

-Matthew 6:9-13
